Superannuation
How can I access my superannuation early?
An important part of superannuation is to ensure that all members of the community have an adequate level of income in retirement. Given this, the law imposes strict conditions on the early release of superannuation to ensure superannuation savings are preserved to provide income in retirement.
You may be eligible to apply for access to a limited portion of your superannuation early strictly under the following circumstances:
- Compassionate grounds;
- Severe financial hardship;
- Terminal medical condition;
- Temporary incapacity;
- Permanent incapacity; or
- If your super balance is less than $200
You can apply for early release of your superannuation online by accessing your myGov account.
Further information about early release of superannuation is available on the Australian Taxation Office website at: www.ato.gov.au/individuals/super/withdrawing-and-using-your-super/early-access-to-your-super/
